Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture has extended its best wishes to South Africa's senior men's football team, Bafana Bafana, and the Proteas women's cricket team as both sides prepare for crucial international assignments this week.

Speaking during a committee meeting on Tuesday, Chairperson Joseph Job McGluwa congratulated Bafana Bafana on their recent performances and expressed confidence in the team's ability to represent the country with distinction when they face Mexico on Thursday.

"On behalf of the committee, I'd like to wish and congratulate our football team, Bafana Bafana, as they take on Mexico on Thursday," McGluwa said.
"We believe that they can make and will make us proud as a nation. From this committee we wish them good luck."

Bafana Bafana's fixture against Mexico is expected to provide a significant test for the South African side as they continue building momentum on the international stage.

Confidence in Proteas Women

McGluwa also used the opportunity to rally behind the Proteas women's cricket team ahead of their opening match against Australia on Saturday.

The Proteas Women will carry South Africa's hopes into their World Cup opener against Australia this weekend.

The chairperson praised the team for consistently demonstrating their ability to compete against the world's best sides and said the country should have confidence in their chances of success.

"Parallel to that, I'd also like to wish the Proteas female team the best of luck at the opening game against Australia on Saturday at the G20 World Cup. They've proven beyond reasonable doubt that they are capable of bringing that cup back home,"he said.

The Proteas women have established themselves as one of the leading teams in international cricket in recent years, earning praise for their performances in major global tournaments and reaching the latter stages of several international competitions.

National pride

McGluwa said the committee's message reflected the hopes of many South Africans who would be supporting both teams as they compete on the world stage.

With Bafana Bafana taking on one of North America's football powerhouses and the Proteas women beginning their World Cup campaign against one of cricket's strongest nations, the coming days present an opportunity for South African sport to once again showcase its talent internationally.

The committee's message comes at a time when South African teams across multiple sporting codes continue to raise the country's profile globally, with expectations high that both Bafana Bafana and the Proteas women can deliver performances that will make the nation proud.
